Jeans are the paramount of fashion. Nothing beats a pair of denim pants when it comes to the mix of style, fashion, comfort of practicability. A recently untapped market, mens jeans are now being looked at as, not only a steady source of income – because men don’t seem to get enough of them – but as a fashion accessory. I remember a time when jeans had two colors – blue and (occasionally) black. And while women’s jeans were often accessorized, ripped, styled and twisted into different shapes, men’s jeans remained sober – safe from a period in the 70’s with the bellbottoms.
But now men’s clothes are as styled as women’s. Several big brands are putting forward jeans that are both fitting and stylish. The times when we would rip holes in the knees to have a pair of jeans that were exclusive are long gone. Jeans come pre-ripped now. And pre-written on, and even pre-wrinkled. The increase in selection is always welcome, despite some excesses that are natural when things are new. But what would be more striking from someone teleported straight from the mid nineties to our times is the different colored jeans you can find now. Dark and bright – even neon bright – along with pale colors, there’s no limit to the palette of colors you can find in jeans nowadays.
Looking a little lower than jeans, we have another trendy fashion instrument – shoes. A lot like jeans, mens shoes used to be a bland fashion item, changing very little during the years. But be it lace, Velcro or these new elastic-fit ones, there is nothing less in sight but more glamorous than a pair of shoes. They say that the way a person treats their feet says a lot about them. Well, there’s nothing more visible on your feet than your shoes, so nothing will say more about you than them. Can you choose a pair to fit the occasion? Do they match your clothes? More importantly, do you go for style of for comfort? Do you take care of them, or are you a “use and throw away” kind of person? People claim to be able to judge all of this from ones shoes. Truth or not, doesn’t really matter. What matters is that you chose whatever suits you better – your style, your feet and your wallet. In the end, comfort can go as long way as style, if your expensive Italian shoes are so tight that they make you grumpy.
